Welcome to the Department of Biology postgraduate program entitled “Applied Ecology & Environmental Management”
The MSc program entitled “Applied Ecology and Environmental Management” is addressed to graduates of either Biology or other related Higher Education Departments (HEIs), thus aiming to enrich their specific knowledge in cutting-edge areas of the Biological Sciences, mainly related to Environmental Biology.
The MSc program entitled “Applied Ecology and Environmental Management” is addressed to graduates of either Biology or other related Higher Education Departments (HEIs), thus aiming to enrich their specific knowledge in cutting-edge areas of the Biological Sciences, mainly related to Environmental Biology.
The main goal of the MSc courses is:
- to promote the knowledge and the research in cutting-edge areas of Applied Ecology (e.g., Ecosystem Management, monitoring and evaluation of Ecological Quality, Status of Habitat Conservation, Status of Ecosystems, Ecosystem Services, Managementof Biological Resources, Fisheries, Aquaculture, Ecotoxicology, Evolutionary Biology, Functional Ecology, Biodiversity),
- to promote executives with excellent education and broad knowledge of the scientific field in order to strengthen their scientific and professional careers and their academic development,
- to provide postgraduate students with knowledge and research tools, thus allowing them to staff public services and private bodies related to the environmental assessment, monitoring, protection and management (e.g., Management Agencies, Stakeholders, design offices, public and private education, etc.),
- to retain the country’s scientific human resources, which resorts abroad for corresponding studies.
Summary information
The 18-month (three semesters) duration MSc program (without no tuition fees) consists of six (6) compulsory courses that are divided into two (2) semesters, as well as the implementation and evaluation of the MSc thesis (corresponding to 40 ECTS) during the second and third semester. The 1st semester is implemented from the middle of October to the end of January of the next year, including exams in each course, followed by the 2nd semester till middle of March. During the curriculum, seminars will be scheduled by invited instructors from different national and international institutes. Repeat exams in each course are commonly performed in September, after the completion of both semesters. After the completion of teaching courses, all MSc students are asked to implement their diploma thesis in order to complete their studies (duration 12 months), after consultation with a member of the teaching stuff (supervisor).
In the PMS “Applied Ecology & Environmental Management” the lessons are taught by live PMS has no tuition fees The P.M.S. awards a Postgraduate Diploma in “Applied Ecology & Environmental Management”. Graduates of Biology Departments and other relevant Departments of Higher Education (HEI) of the country or of recognized equivalent institutions abroad are accepted at PMS. The duration for the awarding of the Postgraduate Studies Diploma (MPS) is set at three (3) semesters.
