1. MSc programme Applied Ecology & Environmental Management offered by the Department of Biology at the University of Patras.

The MSc Programme aims to provide advanced education for graduates of Biology and other related departments of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in cutting-edge areas of Biological Sciences closely linked to Environmental Biology.

The purpose of the programme is:

Promotes knowledge and research in cutting-edge areas within the broader fields of Applied Ecology, such as Ecosystem Management, Monitoring and Evaluation of Ecological Quality, Conservation Status of Habitats, Ecosystem Quality, Ecosystem Services, Biological Resource Management, Fisheries, Aquaculture, Ecotoxicology, Evolutionary Biology, Functional Ecology, and Biodiversity.

Prepares professionals with comprehensive training and in-depth knowledge of the scientific field to enhance their scientific and professional careers, as well as their academic advancement.

Equips postgraduate students with the knowledge and research tools needed to work in public services and private organizations related to the evaluation, monitoring, protection, and management of the environment (e.g., Management Bodies, regional and local authorities, development agencies focused on sustainable management, consulting firms, public and private education, etc.).

2. Postgraduate programme entitled “Biological Technology: Research & Applications”

The MSc programme entitled “Biological Technology: Research & Applications” is addressed to graduates of either Biology or other related Higher Education Departments (HEIs), thus aiming to enrich their specific knowledge in cutting-edge areas of the Biological Sciences, mainly related to Biological Technology.

The main goals of the MSc programme are:

  • to promote knowledge and research in cutting-edge areas of Biological Technology such as Applied Genetics, Biochemistry, Environmental Mutagenesis, Evolution, Genetics, Human and Animal Physiology, Immunobiology, Microbiology, Neurobiology, Plant Physiology, Structural Biology and Systems Biology,
  • to promote executives with excellent education and broad knowledge of the scientific field in order to strengthen their scientific and professional careers and their academic development, and
  • to provide postgraduate students with knowledge and research tools, thus allowing them to work in public and private services related to health, education, environmental protection etc.

  • Postgraduate Programme in Oceanography: Exploration, Capture and Management of the Marine Environment (Departments of Geology and Biology of the University of Patras)

4. Postgraduate Programme of the Department of Biology “Biological Sciences: Research and Applications”

The Master’s Program “Biological Sciences: Research and Applications”, aims at the postgraduate education of graduates of the Departments of Biology and other related sciences, in leading areas of the Biological Sciences that have a direct relationship with the development of Biological Technology and Environmental Biology.

The main objectives of the program are to provide knowledge that will lead to the thorough theoretical and technological training of scientists, who in turn will be able to:

a) support and further promote the basic and applied research carried out in the Universities and research Institutes of the country

b) staff a series of services related to health, quality of life, nutrition, monitoring, protection and management of the environment.

The intended goals of the program are the product of a long and systematic observation, recording and analysis of the problems of education in the Biology Departments of Greece, assessment of social and economic needs of the country and an additional product of systematic monitoring and study of the rapid developments occurring in the biological sciences and their multiple applications in the last twenty-five years.
