Ερευνητικές και άλλες δραστηριότητες

Έρευνα που εστιάζει στην ποικιλότητα, την οικολογία και τη διατήρηση των χερσόβιων ζώων, με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στα πτηνά. Μελέτη της μεταναστευτικής και πληθυσμιακής οικολογίας, των μετακινήσεων και της συνδεσιμότητας των πληθυσμών, καθώς και των μοριακών και φυσιολογικών μηχανισμών που σχετίζονται με τη διαχείριση των ενεργειακών αποθεμάτων και τις αποφάσεις ανεφοδιασμού κατά τη μετανάστευση. Συνδυάζει έρευνα πεδίου, τηλεμετρία, δεδομένα επιστήμης των πολιτών, μοριακές και γονιδιωματικές προσεγγίσεις και ποσοτικά μοντέλα. Παράλληλα, διερευνά τη γενετική ποικιλότητα, τη φυλογεωγραφία και την προσαρμοστική διαφοροποίηση πτηνών, αμφιβίων και άλλων ομάδων της χερσαίας πανίδας.

Το εφαρμοσμένο έργο περιλαμβάνει την αξιολόγηση των επιπτώσεων των αιολικών εγκαταστάσεων και της παράνομης χρήσης δηλητηριασμένων δολωμάτων στην άγρια ζωή, την ανάλυση βιωσιμότητας πληθυσμών και τον σχεδιασμό και την αξιολόγηση δράσεων διατήρησης απειλούμενων ειδών. Συμμετοχή στην αξιολόγηση ειδών για τον Κόκκινο Κατάλογο της Ελλάδας, στην εποπτεία του καθεστώτος διατήρησης της ορνιθοπανίδας και στην εκπόνηση μελετών για περιοχές Natura 2000. Έχει διατελέσει επιστημονικός υπεύθυνος των έργων SKYSCAPE, ROUTES και WINGS και συμμετέχει σε διεθνείς ερευνητικές συνεργασίες και δίκτυα, όπως τα EUFLYNET, ERGA και IUCN SSC Vulture Specialist Group. Είναι μέλος της Επιστημονικής Επιτροπής της Ελληνικής Ορνιθολογικής Εταιρείας.
